Imago for Individuals

Imago Relationship Therapy for Individuals

Whether working with a couple or an individual the task remains the same—helping clients connect to themselves and others.

Imago Relationship Therapy (IRT) teaches that we had to give up, deny, or disown core parts of our self to fit in with our family, our peers, our schools, and the variety of groups to which we belonged. The power struggle phase or the IRT model is intended to force you to notice and reclaim those lost parts of yourself that you denied and disowned so that you can repair and heal those wounds and finish the work of childhood. To finish this task you must first embrace Imago’s belief that most of your problems are the result of ruptures in your relationships and therefore the repair of those ruptures is best done in relationship.

For this reason, I encourage you to consider bringing kindred spirits into our sessions to assist you in learning the theory and toolkit of the IRT paradigm, in and out of session. In the absence of such relationships, I will use our clinical relationship as a laboratory to learn and practice the IRT model.

Not only can an individual to IRT, it is a wonderful model to help you learn about yourself, your relationships, and how to deepen your connection to both.
